We only tend to hear of
earthquakes when they are severe causing the deaths of many lives, yet our
planet is rocked by earthquakes on a daily basis. This map shows a list of the 5
most recent earthquakes worldwide and automatically refreshes and updates as
they occur. You can click on the map or menu for more detail about the
individual earthquakes.
The menu also provides the
magnitude of the earthquake. The magnitude of earthquakes is measure on the
Richter Scale, named after Charles F Richter of the California Institute of
Technology. The scale, in use since 1935, would, in general measure a small
tremor (which may not even be felt by hhumans) at 2.0 or less, whilst a major
earthquake would measure 8.0 or more.
