HAITI EARTHQUAKE AFTERMATH

The Haiti Earthquake of 2010 killed over 250,000 people and left over a million displaced. This video and article provides an update.

This is recent footage showing the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in January. Haiti is the western's world's poorest country, having become indebted by buying its freedom from slavery from its colonial 'master' France.

Burdened with such an enormous debt, it has not been able to invest in the infrastructure required to build buildings that are safer during earthquakes. Today it is estimated that between 250,000 and 300,00 people were killed in the earthquake with the same again being injured and a further one million displaced; over one in ten of the population. The Haiti earthquake is possibly the world's worth ever natural disaster and killed twice the number of the atom bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima at the end of the second world war.
