al-Qaeda in Yemen: A video documentary exploring recent al-Qaeda activity in the Republic of Yemen, fuelled by demands for independence by the secessionist south.
Osama bin Laden, the
founder of al-Qaeda was born in the Yemen and its is now alleged
that the country is becoming a focus for al-Qaeda activity as its
foothold in Afghanistan weakens.
A decade ago the US
naval vessel, the USS Cole was damaged off Aden by an alleged
al-Qaeda suicide attack that killed seventeen US personnel,
triggering an awareness of al-Qaeda in the area and since that time
there have been numerous attacks on western interests and on the
government which has pledged to fight the organisation. al-Qaeda
appears to be harnessing unrest in parts of the secessionist south
to fuel its activities which appear to be on the rise. However many
claim that the government is using the presence of al-Qaeda as an
excuse to carry out growing insurrection in the south, a suppression
funded by the west.
These video documentaries
explore the current situation in Yemen and the effects of al-Qaeda
activity there.
